Chef Dan Robayo

Dan expresses his passion for cuisine and cookery by focusing on local agriculture and the environment first and foremost, telling the story of "how" and "why" we eat what we do.

By focusing on seasonal cultivation and promoting sustainability for our community and future generations, Dan works to increase awareness of Hawaiʻi's abundant agricultural resources. "Our staples and the ancient canoe crops are communal by nature...Preservation, education, and a knowledge of how to work with these ingredients is paramount to our sustainability."

Dan moved to Hawaiʻi Island with his wife and two young children in 2017 as the opening Executive Chef for Magics Beach Grill in Kailua-Kona. Danʻs wife Katie comes from a long line of Japanese immigrants to Hawaiʻs who settled in the Honokaʻa region of Hawaiʻi Island during the sugar cane boom in the early 1900s. He is indebted to the vast amount of knowledge and history that his ʻohana has given him as he has embarked on his own journey in Hawaiʻi. Earlier in his career, he honed his skills in some of the top kitchens on the East Coast and most recently in Portland, Oregon.
