Our commitment
At the Hawaiʻi ʻUlu Cooperative, our mission is to make Hawaiʻi-grown staple foods easy for everyone to enjoy — and we mean everyone. We are committed to making eatbreadfruit.com welcoming and usable for all of our visitors, including people who navigate the web with assistive technologies such as screen readers, keyboard-only controls, screen magnifiers, or voice recognition.
The standard we’re working toward
We are working to align our website with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. Published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), these are the internationally recognized guidelines for digital accessibility. They are built around four principles: that content be perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for as many people as possible.
What we’re doing
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment rather than a one-time fix. We review our site as it grows and work to improve it over time. Our continuing efforts include:
- Providing descriptive alternative text for images so they work with screen readers
- Using clear page structure, headings, and labels that are easy to navigate
- Designing for sufficient color contrast and readable text
- Supporting keyboard navigation and other assistive technologies
A work in progress
We know there is always more to do. Some areas of our site — including content or features provided by third parties — may not yet meet every goal we have set for ourselves, and we are actively working to improve them. Feedback from the people who use our site is one of the best ways we find and fix issues, and we welcome yours.
