ʻUlu Varieties in Hawaiʻi

 

In this video, we explore the characteristics of the 7 most common varieties of ʻulu in Hawaiʻi: ʻUlu Maoli (Hawaiian ʻulu), Otea, Ulu Fiti, Maʻafala, Lipet, Maopo, Puou. There are hundreds of ʻulu varieties grown throughout the Pacific. In Hawaiʻi we have ʻulu varieties originating from Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Micronesia. Each breadfruit variety has its own seasonality, fruit yield, shape, density, consistency and size. The growing habits and pruning strategies of each tree can differ.
