ʻUlu palaʻai mash - the ultimate hack

Ingredients

  • 12oz recipe-ready ʻUlu

  • 12oz recipe-ready Palaʻai

  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, softened

  • 2 cups soup stock (chicken or veggie)

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Defrost palaʻai and ʻulu in fridge overnight

  2. Peel palaʻai using a paring knife and steam chunks until soft, about 10 minutes

  3. Chop ʻulu into rough chunks and cook in chicken or veggie stock until soft and drain off any left over liquid.

  4. Put palaʻai and ʻulu into large mixing bowl and blend slowly with a stand or hand held mixer. Add softened butter one tablespoon at a time and continue blending until ingredients are fully incorporated and creamy. Be careful not to overmix! Add salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Garnish with fresh green herbs and serve warm.
